Hiroyuki Nagase, MD, PhD
President, Japanese Society of Allergology
Division of Respiratory Medicine and Allergology, Department of Medicine
Teikyo University School of Medicine

I am deeply honored to assume the role of President of the Japanese Society of Allergology. It is both a privilege and a great responsibility to lead a society with more than 70 years of history and tradition. I would like to express my sincere respect and gratitude to the past Presidents, Board members, and all members who have contributed to the development of the Society.

Allergic diseases affect people of all ages, from children to older adults, often involving multiple organs and significantly impacting patients’ quality of life (QoL). In recent years, advances in our understanding of disease mechanisms and the development of novel treatments, including molecular targeted therapies, have substantially improved allergy care. Nevertheless, important challenges remain, including disparities in healthcare across regions and medical disciplines, as well as the need for care systems that span diseases and organ systems.

With these challenges in mind, I would like to focus on four key priorities during my presidency.

First, promoting Total Allergy. Allergology encompasses a wide range of medical specialties, including internal medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, otorhinolaryngology, and ophthalmology. By respecting the expertise of each discipline and strengthening collaboration across specialties and organ systems, we aim to advance comprehensive, patient-centered allergy care.

Second, embracing diversity. We will foster a Society that values diversity in medical specialties, geographic regions, generations, gender, and professional backgrounds, and in which members from varied backgrounds can make full use of their abilities. By listening to diverse perspectives and expanding opportunities for members to participate in the Society’s activities and leadership, we aim to build a more dynamic and inclusive professional community.

Third, supporting the next generation of physicians and researchers. We will provide opportunities for early-career members to develop their careers and take on new challenges in clinical practice, research, and international collaboration. We are committed to nurturing young talent, encouraging innovative ideas, and supporting the next generation of leaders in allergology.

Fourth, strengthening international collaboration. We will maintain and further strengthen the relationships established with allergy societies around the world. We will also promote the development of data that reflect the current status of allergic diseases and clinical practice in Japan, thereby enhancing the dissemination of information and scientific exchange from Japan to the international community.

The ultimate goal of these efforts is to deliver better care to patients with allergic diseases and contribute to improving their QoL.

Together with all members of the Society, I look forward to building an open, inclusive, and vibrant Society. I sincerely ask for your continued understanding and support.
